Therefore, it’s crucial to be aware of the risks and how you can reduce them. With cardiovascular diseases being on the rise, it is essential to have regular blood pressure checkups.

Many people in the UK are completely unaware they suffer from high blood pressure. If left untreated, the condition can lead to heart disease, stroke and other serious conditions. It is recommended that everyone should have their blood pressure checked at least every 3-5 years, and more often as you get older, or if you have been previously diagnosed with high blood pressure, or if you suffer from conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that helps your body function normally
It’s mainly made by the liver, but can also be found in some foods. Having an excessively high level of cholesterol in your blood can have an effect on your health, increasing your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Your may want to have your blood cholesterol levels tested if you:
- have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease, stroke or mini stroke (TIA), or peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
- have a family history of early cardiovascular disease
- have a close family member who has a cholesterol-related condition
- are overweight
- have high blood pressure, diabetes, or a health condition that can increase cholesterol levels

Do you have problems with excess ear wax, an ear wax build up or blockage? Ear blockages can be painful, uncomfortable and even make it hard to hear. Typically, the main causes of ear blockages is the build up of ear wax. Ear wax is perfectly natural, but it is often uncomfortable and even painful when impacted. Microsuction is a wax removal technique using a precision, low pressure suction apparatus to gently and safely suck un-wanted or obstructing skin cells and wax from the external auditory meatus (ear canal). It avoids touching the sensitive area around the ear canal and evades contact with the eardrum. Microsuction is generally accepted as the safest and most effective method of ear wax removal.

Compared to traditional forms of wax removal – ear drops and irrigation or syringing, microsuction is:

Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccination is available every year to help protect both adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Flu is a common infectious viral illness spread by coughs and sneezes.
It can be very unpleasant, but you’ll usually begin to feel better within about a week.

It’s not the same as the common cold. Flu is caused by a different group of viruses and the symptoms tend to start more suddenly, be more severe and last longer. Flu can make you feel so exhausted and unwell that you have to stay in bed and rest until you feel better.

The flu vaccine is one way to keep yourself protected.

The best time to have the vaccine is in the autumn, between September and early November. You should have the flu vaccination every year so you stay protected, as the viruses that cause flu change every year.

It is estimated that between 33 – 50% of medicines are not taken as prescribed.
This could be due to a number of reasons including side effects, or the need for further information or support.

The New Medicine Service provides early support to patients to identify any problems they may be having with their medicines and identify solutions to these problems. As part of the service, any further information you may need is also provided. This should enable you to maximise the benefits of the medication they have been prescribed. This consultation is based on three discussions with the pharmacist based on different times after starting the new medication prescribed to you.
