What is the New Medicine Service?
The New Medicine Service is a free NHS service to help you understand your
condition and get the most out of your new medicine.

The service is for patients who have received their first prescription for a medicine to
treat any of the following conditions:
- asthma
- lung conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema
- type 2 diabetes
- high blood pressure
- conditions where you take a medicine to control the way your blood clots.

Between 30% and 50% of prescribed medicines are not taken as recommended,
preventing these patients from receiving the full benefit of their treatment.

The service gives you:
- More information about the new medicine you are taking
- A chance to ask questions about your medicine and discuss any concerns

Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccination is available every year to help protect both adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

What is FLU?
- A viral illness which can cause many unpleasant symptoms such as high
temperature, headaches, body aches, tiredness and sore throat.
- Easily spread between people through coughs and sneezes and by touching
infected surfaces.


You are eligible to receive a FREE NHS flu jab if you:
- are 65 years of age or over
- are pregnant*
- are a carer*

And/or have certain medical conditions* including:

- Asthma and COPD
- Kidney disease
- Neurological disease
- Heart disease
- Liver disease
- Diabetes *patients must be 18 years of age or over

For those patients who are not eligible for a free NHS vaccination, Browns Pharmacy
offer flu vaccinations for a fee of £10. Our walk-in service can be used while you wait
for your prescription.
