Our pharmacies deliver quick and easy blood pressure checks to help you stay in
control of your health. We will take a blood pressure reading in the privacy of a
consultation room, then provide you with information about what that reading means
and offer simple advice if you the result in outside the normal range.

Raised blood pressure can indicate the risk of serious health problems such as heart
disease.

Blood glucose testing is the process used to measure the concentration of
glucose (sugar) in your blood. Our pharmacy staff are trained to carry out
this test and offer advice if the result is outside the normal range.

Blood glucose testing, also known as blood glucose monitoring, is one of
the tools used to in the diagnosis and control of diabetes.

Our pharmacists will also be able to discuss any symptoms that are
concerning you that may be linked to diabetes such as tiredness, blurred
vision and needing to pass water too frequently.

Contraceptive advice including the morning after pill.
This service is for confidential advice and for the provision of Emergency Hormonal Contraception.

Emergency Hormonal Contraception, better known as the ‘morning after pill’, is one
of the options used to prevent pregnancy when other methods of contraception, such
as condoms, have failed. Emergency contraception is most effective the sooner it is
taken, however, it can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

Browns Pharmacy offer a private, confidential and anonymous consultation. Our
pharmacist will advise you on the most appropriate emergency contraceptive option
and offer any help or support that you may need.

Browns Pharmacy can provide emergency contraception free of charge through a
local NHS Service. This free service is dependent upon location and pharmacist
availability.

Make your inhaler work for you.
Get the best from your medicines with a session on inhaler technique. Your pharmacist can check that you're using your inhaler(s) in the best way possible to ensure your medicine is effective in helping you to manage your asthma well.
Think your inhaler technique is fine? You might be surprised. Even if you've been using the same asthma medicine for years, you might have developed some bad habits with your technique. Lots of people aren't getting the full benefits, and a few tweaks to how you're using your inhaler may make all the difference.
If you've been put off using your preventer inhaler for any reason, talk to our pharmacist about it. They may be able to answer any questions you have and help ease your concerns

Our Inhaler Technique Check service is for any patient who has been prescribed an
inhaler. Our pharmacists offer an inhaler technique review including advice and
training on how to ‘get the best’ from prescribed inhalers.

The inhaler technique check is carried out face to face with the patient in one of our
pharmacies.

During the check, the following services and advice may be offered:

- Advice on inhaler usage aiming to develop improved adherence
- Effective use of regular inhalers
- Effective use of ‘when required’ inhalers
- Advice on appropriate use of different inhaler types
- Identification of the need for a change of inhaler type to facilitate effective use
-Appropriate referral to GP or nurse prescriber

What is the New Medicine Service?
The New Medicine Service is a free NHS service to help you understand your
condition and get the most out of your new medicine.

The service is for patients who have received their first prescription for a medicine to
treat any of the following conditions:
- asthma
- lung conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema
- type 2 diabetes
- high blood pressure
- conditions where you take a medicine to control the way your blood clots.

Between 30% and 50% of prescribed medicines are not taken as recommended,
preventing these patients from receiving the full benefit of their treatment.

The service gives you:
- More information about the new medicine you are taking
- A chance to ask questions about your medicine and discuss any concerns


Smoking Cessation enables you to gain advice on the correct use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy and provides behavioural support to help you give up smoking.

According to Public Health England, 60% of smokers want to quit, and with our
support you will more likely be successful.

- After a year, your risk of heart disease halves compared to someone
who is still smoking
- After 10 years your risk of lung cancer falls to half of a smoker
- After 15 years your risk of a heart attack falls to that of someone who
has never smoked.
-Exposure to second-hand smoke can increase the risk of lung cancer
and heart disease by approximately a quarter

Our Stop Smoking Service gives you access to support, tips and pharmacy advice
about the latest stop smoking aids. The support includes advice on a wide range of
Nicotine Replacement Therapies available, such as lozenges, patches, sprays and
gums.
