Meningitis B is a highly aggressive and potentially fatal bacterial infection caused by the Neisseria meningitidis group B bacteria. It inflames the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord. The infection can progress within 24 hours, leading to blood poisoning (sepsis), and requires immediate medical attention.
