Types of Typhoid Vaccines
There are two main types of vaccines available:
Oral Typhoid Vaccine:
Brand name: Vivotif
Form: Oral capsules
Schedule: You take a series of 4 capsules over a period of 7 days, starting at least 1 week before travel.
Duration: Protection lasts for about 5 years.
Injectable Typhoid Vaccine:
Brand name: Typhim Vi or other similar vaccines
Form: Injection
Schedule: A single dose, given at least 2 weeks before travel.
Duration: Protection lasts for about 2 years.
Who Should Get the Typhoid Vaccine?
Travelers to high-risk areas: People visiting countries with poor sanitation, such as parts of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, should get vaccinated.
Anyone in close contact with an infected person: If you work in healthcare or live with someone who has typhoid fever, you may need the vaccine.
