Many of us have been there at some point, wondering if it is possible to get our prescriptions from a different pharmacy.
Maybe you’ve recently moved house, and you’re worried about travelling long distances to collect your prescription. Perhaps you’re out of town for the week, or your pharmacy is closed at the time you’ve gone to collect your medication.
Whatever the reason, we’re here to tell you that you can still get your prescription, and this is how!
I have a green paper prescription
If you have a green paper prescription from your GP or healthcare provider, then you can take this to any pharmacy and have it dispensed while you wait in the store.
All you need to do is present your prescription to whichever pharmacy is closest to you, and as long as they have your required medication in stock, they’ll fulfil your prescription for you straight away.
I want to change my pharmacy permanently
If you’ve recently moved address, then getting your prescription fulfilled by your new local pharmacy couldn’t be easier. Simply pop in to the pharmacy of your choice, and let the pharmacy staff know that you’d like to collect your prescription from their pharmacy.
The pharmacy staff may ask you for your NHS number to enable them to connect to the NHS prescription service and will create a patient record for you. Once this is completed, you’ll be nominated to their pharmacy and all prescriptions will be sent to them directly once you have placed your repeat order.
