Duloxetine belongs to a class of medications known as serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), and is used primarily to treat depression and anxiety.

It usually takes around 2-4 weeks to start feeling the positive effects of the medication, though this can be longer if you’re taking it to treat nerve pain in conditions like fibromyalgia.

Common Side Effects - up to 1 in 10 people

Like with any medication, taking duloxetine can cause you to feel certain side effects. It’s important to note that the following side effects are very common, and tend to go away by themselves.

However, if they don’t go away or are making you feel very uncomfortable, we advise speaking with your GP for further guidance.

The side effects include:

  • Dizziness and drowsiness
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Fatigue (feeling tired)
  • Nausea
  • Weight loss (lack of appetite)
  • Lack of sex drive
  • Headaches

For an extensive list on the side effects of duloxetine, please visit the official NHS website.
