Levothyroxine is a medication used to treat people suffering from an underactive thyroid gland, known as hypothyroidism

As a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine, it is used to bring the body’s thyroid back into balance. Typically, you’ll be given a lower dosage which can then be gradually increased until your doctor is satisfied that they have found the appropriate dosage for your condition.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

People taking levothyroxine often believe the medication isn’t working because they don’t feel the effects on their symptoms straight away, but it’s important to note that the medicine begins to work immediately

If the administered dosage is correct, many people begin to feel significantly better after six weeks of taking the medication. However, it can take weeks or in some cases months before you begin to feel better with reductions in your symptoms, this will often be dependent on how severe your symptoms are to begin with.
