What Not to Take with Lansoprazole?

Lansoprazole is a medication used to treat stomach and esophageal problems by reducing stomach acid. It helps with conditions like indigestion, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

To ensure the effectiveness of your lansoprazole prescription and your well-being, it’s important to be aware of the potential interactions with other drugs and substances that can occur when taking it.

You should inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medication before you start your lansoprazole treatment: 

  • Antibiotics: Rifampicin
  • Antifungal drugs: Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Posaconazole
  • Antidepressant: Fluvoxamine
  • Antifungal drugs: Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Posaconazole
  • Blood clot preventatives: Clopidogrel, Warfarin
  • Epilepsy medicine: Phenytoin
  • Heart medicine: Digoxin
  • HIV medications
  • Psoriasis and arthritis medicine: Methotrexate

Taking any of these medications with lansoprazole can increase your chances of side effects, or can prevent one of the medications from working as it should.

These side effects are usually mild and temporary. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if any become persistent or bothersome:

  • Headache
  • Nausea and Upset Stomach
  • Diarrhea or Constipation
  • Flatulence (Gas)
  • Dry Mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
