Therefore, it’s crucial to be aware of the risks and how you can reduce them. That’s where we can help, why not visit us and have one of our trained pharmacy staff members check your blood pressure for free.

The only way to find out if you have Chlamydia is to get tested. The recommended tests are simple, painless and very reliable. Treatment also available.

Our Gateshead Pharmacy can provide Chlamydia testing kits to people under the age of 25, for example when young people purchase condoms, when oral contraceptive pills are dispensed and supplied to patients and when supplying EHC. Advice on how to utilise the kit, how to return it for testing and what will happen following completion of the test will be provided. Our fully trained Pharmacist and pharmacy staff can provide support and advice to people accessing the service, including advice on safe sex, condom use and advice on the use of regular contraceptive methods, when required.

The C-card scheme gives young people quick and easy access to condoms. It also offers a safe environment where it is easy to seek advice and information about sexual health topics and relationships. C-card is a free and confidential service for people under a certain age (please check with the pharmacy). You don’t even need to be sexually active. If you are thinking about having sex you can register and be ready. No booking required just visit your local Pharmacy.

Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccination is available every year to help protect both adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Please note private flu vaccinations will be available from 6th of September and the NHS vaccinations will be available from the 20th of September.

Lateral flow tests are available in all Whitworth Pharmacy branches. 
Quick and easy to use, these free COVID-19 tests are ideal for people who are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 but may be spreading the virus. They are a home testing kit that provide results in just 30 minutes and help us to limit the spread of the coronavirus and move out of lockdown more safely.  
No need to book an appointment just visit your local branch to collect your kit.

Visiting your pharmacy instead of your GP can save you time and their is no need to book an appointment, just walk in.

If you’re prescribed new medication from your GP you can speak to your pharmacist about this to get extra help, this is a free scheme called New Medicine Service (NMS). There are a number of reasons that you might need further information on taking your medicines, including managing side effects. The NMS provides you early support to highlight any problems you may be having with your medicines and identify solutions to these problems. As you are prescribed new medication from your GP there may have been questions you forgot to ask or questions that have arisen after the GP visit. The NMS is the perfect time to get these questions answered. These appointments with your pharmacist are confidential and will be held in a separate consultation areas.

An NHS health check is a free check-up for people aged between 40 – 74 years. This health check is designed to lower the risk and spot early signs of a stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia. This free NHS health check is offered every five years if you are within the age range and have no pre-existing conditions. During the health check you would be asked, in a private consultation room, about your health, close relatives health and conduct a number of tests such as weight, height, blood pressure and a small blood sample from your finger. The check-up takes around 20 – 30 minutes and the advice is personalised to your needs. Other topics can also be covered if you have questions on improving your diet or stopping smoking for example.

Smoking Cessation enables you to gain advice on the correct use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy and provides behavioural support to help you give up smoking.

Our stop smoking service helps you to understand the best way to quit smoking and how to stick to this. We know this can be a difficult time so coming into branch and speaking to someone before you start will help, setting a date and being prepared for this change. It's never too late to quit smoking. Even if you have been smoking for a number of years you can improve your long-term health by quitting. Setting a date of when you are going to quit can help and informing your family or friends of this date to support you through it. All our pharmacies and online shop also provide over the counter products such as nicotine replacement patches, gum and lozenges.
